I made a trip today to bring all our recycling in. The truck was empty, i had time so i drove around the corner to check out the wood. OMG! Best ive ever seen. The logs were separate from the brush in their own pile. The guy was driving his machine so i decided to ask if i could take some. The answer was NO. I tipped him with a Dunkin Donuts card last time too! I shouldve covertly loaded up when he wasnt looking. I couldve filled up the truck easily. you can see the brush pile in the back. 30"+ diameter white oak. I wouldnt been able to take this but some impressive wood in the mound. Lots of choice hardwood. I think my dump source may be gone. Not that i go there often, but definitely fun to check out for sure. The guy said a lot of others have been asking about the wood.
That is so pathetic. I know some family's that could stay warm all winter on what's thrown away. Typical gov't waste/intelligence.
It will get ground up for mulch and sold. Ive seen the processor for it and watched (with tears in my eyes) it done. Quite the machine. SAD indeed. My guess is liablility. Plus folks like myself and Midwinter would be camped out by the gate!
That's awful! They must not charge much for tipping fees. Every tree service for miles around must be dumping there.
That's so ridiculous. I'm sure most of that firewood is from yard trees that have all kinds of metal in them. If they're putting it through a tub grinder that machine will be breaking down constantly. The reason I know this is because the same type of thing goes on at my city transfer station. Eventually an old tree stake takes the machine down at least once a month. But the amount of firewood in your pics is staggering, such a waste.
Exactly, they charge 59 dollars a ton here. If you're just passing that onto the customer in your tree removal bid I don't know what to say.
i cant say for sure the logs are ground , but normally the brush and logs are mixed and ive seen them being ground. It makes sense that a big chunk of metal would take it down. Ill hafta ask next time i stop there....if i ever go back. Mebbe ill bring a box of tissues just in case!
Liability my eye buzz? No Liability with the wood small enough for you to deal with without any saws and your just throwing wood in the back of the truck. You did say they are selling for mulch so the guy is putting something in his pocket with whoever is selling it. Maybe ya shoulda grabbed him a case of brews before?
No scale. I think theres a flat rate for commercial haulers. Never seen any huge dumps or triaxles there, just landscaper dump trucks.
it was just a guess on my part. Ive known i couldnt take wood, but usually sneak some out as there is nobody at the gate going in or out checking loads. Comped him with a Dunkin gift card last time. I asked and dont think he drinks either. Guy works for the company and not owner, but who knows what goes on? Mebbe i should start up with the honey hole again?
Hard to like this, I guess this is a source of chips and it’s gotta come from somewhere... too bad they can’t pick soft-hardwoods like cottonwood or poplar. Not knowing how common those are around you, still a shame and all.
there is a glut of Eastern white pine, spruce and fir for softwoods. They may have been mixed in the brush pile. Much higher percentage of quality hardwood (white and red oak, ash, maple) in the mound. Yellow(aka tulip) poplar is the one around here. No cottonwood that im aware of. Aspen would be the equal to it.
Yeah. Everything these days is about liability. Thank the lawyers for that. People are sue happy. Dump is probably afraid you’ll drop a round on your foot and then sue them for a million bucks.
I remember this crap on the news for some reason dog? Hot coffee lawsuits have popped up periodically in court ever since Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants, better known as the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit of 1994. That's when a jury awarded the plaintiff $2.86 million for burns she received when she accidentally spilled McDonald's hot coffee in her lap.May 19, 2017
I barely could finish reading your post buZZsaw BRAD, tears in my eyes knowing that pile of future BTU's weren't going to ever make to fire.
