Has anyone ever used these? This person is selling 20 bags for $5 a bag, pretty close to me. It would be an easy grab. I looked these up. Their website says they are Douglas Fir pellets. I like the sound of that. Thanks! CL Wood pellets - general for sale - by owner
I don't have any experience with them. I find it interesting that the Woodscape site says softwood, but Murdochs (and other resellers) say it is softwood and HW. I alps gotta say that I'm not much impressed with the "approx. 8,000 BTU" it says on the bag. Even the worst of the Green Supremes says 8,000-8,300 BTU. Cubex (all HW) says "up to 9,000 btu". I would think that DF's should be more towards the Cubex claims than under the GS claims. OTOH, around here, $5.00/bag is cheap, so if it burns at all I might go for it if I didn't have enough pellets to get me thru the winter (I don't need lots of heat at a time, just consistent heat).
If they are Firs...... BUY, BUY, BUY!!! Website says made from virgin Doug Fir.... You probably should go pick them up
If they are real Douglas Firs then there marketing department needs to be fired.Buy them and report back. That is an order.
Thanks, bogieb and slvrblkk I appreciate the advice. I talked to the guy today. Seems really nice. He’s moving and won’t have a pellet stove at his new place, so doesn’t need these pellets. He says they are in his barn on a pallet and bone dry. I’m gonna pick them up on Friday. Curiosity and thriftiness got the best of me. I’ll update then! -CL
Ha ha. Thanks, PelletHound I just saw your reply. I hope they are Doug Fir as their website says. The guy on the phone says they burn hot and clean, so we’ll see. I will report back, for sure!
as a long time burner of Northern Warmth Douglas firs, they are 9K BTU and zilch ash. i also use Matra, a softwood out of canada and they are 8800 btu. as someone posted even the basic hardwoods at box stores like green supremes only come in at low 8k... looks like false claims....
I went and picked up the Woodscape pellets this morning. The guy selling them was super nice. They were in his barn. He loaded them into my truck on a pallet, with his skid steer. I didn't argue on price. I paid him 100 bucks. I brought the pellets home and stacked them in my storage room to burn. They were packaged on the pallet 5 bags per layer. I somehow ended up with 21 bags, instead of 20. I had to put a little duct tape on a couple of bags. No big deal. These pellets are long, dense and honey colored. I poured a bag into the hopper on my pellet stove right away and set them on fire. I also poured a bag into my "scoop can." Zero noticeable fines or water damage. They are burning really HOT too. So far, I am very pleased. And I got a free, heavy duty Oak pallet that I'll stack firewood on!
