We were fortunate with our son...we taught him "hot" just by letting him feel the heat coming off the wood stove, and the oven when baking, and then saying "hot, no touch"...he seems to have gotten the point...always points and says "hot" to this day when we are cooking or running the wood stove. Only had one minor incident where he grabbed something hot off the top of the cook top...no major injury's though...your daughter doing OK?

FatBoy85 , put down some aluminum foil under that griddle. It'll keep the oil and other stuff off the stove top....top.

I was going to ask what he does about the grease. I like cooking on my stove top but I do not like the look of the grease that splatters on it.

I'll do that next time. A couple oops splashes on there. I just thought I might be able to get a cookie pan on there to catch spills, if it fits first.... I went ahead and took a small pad to the spills and they were gone. Worst case senario? I buy some flat black stove paint to fix it.

I guess I'm either lucky or nobody worries about that yet.

Daughter is doing fine thank you. I have continuously asked about the stove with her when its hot. Its actually something she seems to avoid now so hopefully things are reaching a level of understanding. She said to me "hot" as i loaded the stove today.

Looking good! I know you've said so before, but how old is the little one? Bet she loved the cakes. My youngest is ten months and really getting into table food. Eggs and toast is her favorite meal - besides what she gets out of mama. ;)

This is one thing I'll never get to do with an owb, though I've been tempted to hang a string of sausages in the chimney from time to time when I've got a load of cherry choochin'..

MikeyB I love it! It’s got the electric heaters pleading no contest on the walls here. I’m just interested in what it performs during the colder parts of the next few months. Too warm during the day but the mornings Im iffy still! It gets warm in this small house....WARM.
The house now holds the heat better as Ive sealed things up. Low 40’s at night but mid to low 60’s for the next week. Now that we get storms around here in November more often, this will be a good teat as well if the lights go out.

My daughter is 2. Curious as they come. She had that whole griddle full on a plate to keep her busy! :flipeggs:
I say do it! Someone on here posted about his chimney in a really old house almost soap box style and his chimneys are massive, so massive that they had their own smoke closet they took foods to smoke up there. Amazing stuff but he’s closed them down and went the stove pipe way, leaving them intact. Hope you get it done and post them!
