Drove by this pile of cherry logs on the way to look at a job last week. Lot being cleared for a new house. Got the job and went by again this morning. No one to ask last week, but a guy on a backhoe today. Asked and got the okay to take wood and use saw as well. No time today, but did grab the lone mulberry log. (one in the road) Mostly cherry with some hickory. Manageable size and right next to the road. Ill go back this week, buck and load. Probably could have easily flip flopped them in but stuff in the bed. IMG_1939.JPG
Put me in a great mood :banana:for a Monday! Wouldve put me in a great mood regardless of the day of the week!

Your wood radar is impeccable. Stuff just falls out of trees for you.

Actually trees just fall for me! I was thinking of changing my FHC user name to the "wood magnet"

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is around to hear it...... Buzzsaw still hears it!

    Nice Monday score for ya!

I hit the score yesterday. Bucked most of the log pile and got a full load in the PU. Mostly cherry with mulberry, couple logs turned out to be black walnut, some were what i thought to be apple and maybe hawthorne. (posted thread about it)
There was more logs scattered about the muddy lot. I asked the guy driving the payloader. He was moving those to where i cut. Maybe another trip in my future. I liked the smaller rounds and so did my back.
Forgot to take my usual full PU load pics IMG_1948.JPG
remembered when i was half unloaded IMG_1964.JPG
split maybe 1/3 of the load. Nice straight splits IMG_1966.JPG

I wanted to hit the locust quest but after last weekends debacle with chain dulling and this nice score to be worked i opted to go here. I pulled up and the logs were never moved to the roadside. Guy was there using the mini payloader and moved them while i got set up and started...my man! IMG_1967.JPG IMG_1969.JPG
He brought them close so i cut right next to and in the road. IMG_1972.JPG Started loading my normal way but realized it wasnt going to be a tight load so i just tossed them in. Mostly cherry with some apple. IMG_1973.JPG IMG_1974.JPG
Stopped for a minute to enjoy the view when i left. He was moving brush and felling more trees way down the hill. Dont know if i'll go back but ten minutes from me. Despite the fact the rounds are smaller it is nice wood. IMG_1975.JPG
split most of the todays and Fridays load. Made for some nice splits. IMG_1983.JPG IMG_1982.JPG

Grabbed the saw and took a ride to see if he moved more wood roadside. He did! Nice whole tree length propped up. Few other smaller trees too. I switched back to the 20" bar on the 261. IMG_1988.JPG
There was more lengths he didnt move. Debated on cutting them but didnt feel like moving smaller rounds. Wasnt sure if i could take them and decided to leave. He shows up, got the okay. and i backed in to cut more. He was going to lunch and i didnt feel like waiting for him to move them up with the payloader. Decent amount, maybe 2/3 of a PU full. IMG_1994.JPG IMG_1995.JPG IMG_1996.JPG
Split a few when i unloaded. Still more there he will move. Ill go back next week for the rest. Pic of wood still there when i left. IMG_1990.JPG

Split todays load and the red maple from the
Hickory score turns into red maple
Gave the shorts and gnarlies to my friend. IMG_2028.JPG
Rounds from last weeks load yet to split. Split rather easily with the X27. Another score where it didnt hurt to ask. Left a note on the guys little skidder thanking him and left my number too. IMG_2029.JPG IMG_2030.JPG

Nicely done Brad! Great view from that spot as well.

I've had good luck with smaller rounds myself. Easier to split by hand and transfer from cutting up the road at my neighbors; down to our place via ATV and small trailer (up in VT).

No kidding? Now I can see why that has a view!

Speaking of that area, I'm amazed at the mount of wood/downed trees along Mt. Carmel from the tornado. Geez.

Yeah, go Mt. Carmel ave through Quinnipiac and its amazing. Some of the other nearby neighborhoods too. Where La Mirage is by Wharton Brook got hit bad. Sections of Clintonville Rd, Pond Hill Rd, Northford Rd got it too. I live on route 22 in North Haven so i travel those roads almost daily. The locust ive been cutting was tornado downed.
