I know how everyone enjoys id's so here you go.
Pretty sure I know what it is.
Hints and better pics to follow of no one gets it.

 

I believe you have Ailanthus there.

 

Got a pic of the leaves? I'm thinking beech.

Leaves are dead and crinkled up.

 

Well the smooth bark and ripples make me think beech, but honestly I've never seen the inside of a round. Could be a younger maple as well.

 

I married a forester to handle that stuff....

I don't know. Looks like beech. Tree of heaven also has smooth bark, but does get a little furrowed when older.

You said it smells good.. So maybe Magnolia? It has smooth bark also?

Hackberry? Not sure on the smell or what the bucked round looks like though.

Seen a hackberry tree today that had smooth bark for a few feet today so I was feeling lucky.

 

If your being a wood snob..i would say it would be above 24mil btu....there are only a few smooth bark trees in p.a.over that..american beech..blue beech....cmon guys help me out...
