Ok hoarders; here's a few pix of my latest scrounge, after about a hour with Mr. Fiskars X-25. What's the species????? I know what it is already, just wanna test you's guys. After the first correct response, I'm gonna ask y'all another question or two about this scrounge to test your powers of observation. Here's the pix..............
I spy a bunch of box elder. The red heart wood gives it away. The res goes away after a while but splash a bit of water on it and the red comes back. I also see cherry, good stuff for the stove and smoker. But on second look I don't know....maybe not any cherry after all.
Well it looks a lot like Blackwood (acacia). An Australian native. Burns gooder. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Come on guys................look close. There's nothing hidden............it's a general thing.................
Softest of all the maples. Seasons in a few months burns slightly better than paper, but will knock the chill out of the room on a cool late September morn. I give! What? I never could find all the faces hidden in those silly pictures either.
I'll tell y'all in an hour.............would like a few more responses here. None of you's are close either!!
Ok, Ok.............This is the straightest grained (look at the pix) box elder that I've ever split. It's also the easiest splitting box elder I've ever split!! I've never seen, or split box elder like this before. Box elder is usually gnarly, twisty, and with lots of small branches within the log that keep it from splitting nicely. This scrounge was super easy to hand split. I was essentially just letting my Fiskars X-25 "fall" onto the logs to get them to split...............not all, but most. I did all this in just over an hour. Wound up being 11 heaping wheel barrows worth of splits.
