Pics of my latest free scrounge from town “Give Back” area at the yard waste facility - got a pickup truck load. Don’t know what it is perhaps some kind of Maple? I’m in western New York. Trunk I cut from was ~23” diameter, had to quarter cut up the rounds to safely carry them...
Whiteish outer wood and redish towards the center. Below are some pics. Anybody know what this stuff is.

I think it's red maple. Were the big rounds kind of lobed?

You can cut at your wood dump? Lucky stiff.

    Midwinter,

Yes, they were lobed. Yea lucky - I pull a lot of wood out of there. I used to scrounge off of craigslist but it was so hit and miss. I still do but most of my wood comes from the dump. This time of year I try to get 1 or 2 pickup loads a weekend, weather permitting. Got about 2.5 cordsmof rounds in the driveway waiting for the ground to firm up to begin splitting.

I would think Boxelder would have bright red streaks in it. White wood with red streaks?

Box elder 100% sure. The bark is a match too.

I cut 4 of them down this summer at my family’s cottage.

You do pretty well at the dump! Do they separate the big wood from the brush? At mine, it's all dumped in one big pile, and a loader comes around to compact it. So timing is critical, to get it before it gets pushed or taken by someone else.

I stand corrected. Free wood is good no matter the species.

The dump - we’ll probably really a “drop-off” place does seperate the brush from big wood. They also have a give back mulch section too.
Yea, free wood is good wood. I say I’ve not paid for wood in over 4 years but between the cost of stove, splitter, shed, saws, and truck I’m not sure?

If it's box elder I would expect white wood with pinkish red center streaks....bark sorta looks like it
