I haven't made anything in the mud oven for a few weeks. We decided on a steak bomb calzone but I ended up with a deep dish. I fired it up using some white cedar and small elm splits. I cooked the onions, peppers, mushrooms and shaved steak as the oven fired. I put a little steak sauce on it at the end. The dough went into a cast iron pan and I pushed the dough up the sides to the top. In went the toppings. Five slices of provolone cheese went on top. I raked the coals out soak the brick floor. I took all the coals out and cooked it for 20 minutes covered in foil. After removing the foil, it was in for 15 more minutes. It was a pretty thick crust, but the steak and vegetables were juicy.
tasty looking pie there I'm whipping up some steak fajitas tonight, last of the frozen bell peppers from last year, couple NY strips on sale, and some onions.\Can't bring myself to fire the grill for the steaks as we ate some nice ribeyes last night
Fresh fajitas are great. I did some in the mud oven in a cast pan a few months ago that were excellent.
intermittent thunderstorms here - not good grilling weather off topic but did that jigsaw work for you?
Yes, it works real well. I will make a small table to mount it upside down. The two pieces I cut went much quicker by adjusting the speed. Thanks for asking.
Dang you and your mud oven and ALL your fantastic 10+ looking food! I wish we were neighbors! If you had a diner, I'd have my own stool there for sure!
