once in a while I can get my wife to go with me for a load of firewood. she wonders how many wives do this: she thinks not many. what say you guys?
my wife helps with getting the wood. I buck she loads most/many of the rounds. I still split it. The kids help a little.
I do most of it, but she helps. I do all the splitting, but she cuts smaller stuff, loads in the truck and helps stack.
When the girls were little (at home) generally it was the three of us as my wife worked different hours and since I teach at the school, I was home when the girls were home. Then we had two woodburners in the house, one in the front room one in the basement. Lou Ann helped when she was home. Now it is only her and I. She helps load wagons (after I have cut to length), she helps stack in the woodsheds AND she feeds the beast (name stolen from another member here) in the mornings now. Daughters and their husbands and the grandkids help when they are here and we are working up wood.
Miss July right (my awesome wife) and Fire Flake left (Eric VW's wife) knocked this pile out. They are some wood splittin' machines! How many cords did that add up to walt?
My wife will do any of the steps except running the saw and skidding. She is very handy with the tractor and trailer, but gets bored standing still at the splitter. Same for our girls when they were growing up, although at times it took some coercion.
Mine has only came with for a load of wood once but didn't help, and she never did again. She used to help unload the truck if it was a 2 step process (she'd throw from truck into shed, I'm in shed stacking) but basically if you see wood here, it's all me. It's just not her thing.
That's what my daughter said, wife went away 3 days I did not lite stove.. House at 45 for 3 days.. Amazing. She helps now
I love my wife, but like saskwoodburner , firewood duty is all mine. Lately she has been in better health, so maybe I can take her on the next scrounge.
My wife was convinced I was just playing and it wasn't work, so she asked me to show her how to split kindling, (I think mostly so she could get on me about helping with the dishes, etc.) We started with a hatchet and a smaller piece of straight grained, knot-free stuff. She got the head about two or three taps in to the first piece and said, "Ok, I'm good." Set it down, turned, and walked back in the house. Since, I've heard her telling friends, "I take care of the housekeeping. He does all the yard work." That's an arrangement I can live with!
My husband used to do the cutting, but not anymore, too many aches and pains. Now he cleans the chainsaw and sharpens the chain. And he cleans the glass on the woodstove. I do all the rest!
My wife will help stack occasionally. My 4yo loves to help move wood around. It's more work for me, but I enjoy it. I load 4-5 splits in her wagon, then push the wagon up the hill with the front of the loaded wheelbarrow while she helps pull it up.
I wish my girlfriend would help, Can't even get her to help stack but she sure likes the house being 80. I told her I'm going to trade her in, she thinks I'm kidding.
