Several years ago, I saw a OWB on the internet the could burn whole logs. The loading mechanism reminded me of the old Navy war movies when torpedoes were loaded into the tube. Logs were on a type of roller table like what you see in warehouse for moving boxes (customer's orders) down a line. I have no idea if this was something that was actually being used or just a prototype. Would any of you know of such a beast or can refer me to a OWB of this design? Thanks Holland Dell
Anything that burns whole logs is probably going to be a smoke/creosote factory. The Log Boiler - Top Load Wood Boilers
Agreed. It's nothing I would use and probably why it's not in production. Hence the reason I was probably looking at a prototype. I have a young friend building a new house in my neighborhood this Spring and we were discussing "odd to best" OWB's to install and it reminded me of this oddball OWB I saw a few years ago. Now we are searching for best. I directed him to this site and hopefully you OWB veterans can lend your advice.
I'll add heatmaster, great customer service Had mine at their facility this summer to get a leak fixed up Very impressed
It seems that when the owb "came out" that somehow it was either promoted or rumored that you can burn anything in them, anything! Then everyone did and now they are know as smoke dragons. Pretty sure that all the current models must be "gassers" to be legal and to operate a gasser wet wood and garbage will turn into an exercise in frustration for the proud owner. My problem with them is that I'm not aware of one that operates as a closed or pressurized system, they are all (I think) "open" systems and that's not healthy for longevity of a boiler.
I've saw a bale fire around here a number of years ago, wasn't the kind of smell that i would want to deal with all winter Especially a smoldering putrid stink a boiler would make
Now that we are on a tangent, a crew at work was cleaning up after a job was done. There were lots of erosion control mats. Straw in a sleeve type stuff. They loaded it in a dump truck that used to be an asphalt truck. Well they didn’t close the exhaust valve that heats the bed. Dude called from the high way to say he was coming in hot! Like on fire! Never a dull moment.
I did find one brand that was pressurized, can’t remember the brand. I run Hearmaster and have a 500k BTU heat exchanger right of the back of the boiler so the system is pressurized but not the boiler. Best I could do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is a fellow on this site who posted a picture of such an outdoor wood stove loading device. I can’t recall his name right now but I believe he was from NY
I believe his name was Just Wood although it looks like he is just a guest now not a member so I don’t know if it’s possible to message him. He posted a photo of his set up & it was nice but I can’t find it.
