You have a Tacoma! So my buddy's dad had timber cut on their farm. I've been told to "have at it" on the tops and remnants. This is about 15 miles from me with as much oak as you like, but no access to any machinery. So I turned my truck into a skidder for a bit.
The only thing better than using your pickup is using your buddies! That's what I try and do. Looking good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's funny...I invited a buddy down but he never showed? I think the weather played a factor. That's why I was up there. Ground has nary been frozen this year so got in and grabbed what I could. I'm planning to cut over there this year and maybe next. Soooo many abandoned btus! The cutter didn't take any pulp, so other than sawlogs, it's all still there...and as of now I'm the only party privied to it. As others have said...trying to do the best I can with what I have available. Boy it'd sure be nice to have my little tractor there even for a day. I don't have a trailer that will haul it. I can however haul the kubota buggy and may make it my skid mule very soon. Since I'm off the reservation, I plan to cut and split on site.
Any free wood is gooder wood! . I'm fortunate to be hoard'n buddies with a guy who has a coup bobcat skidsteers, two dump trucks, and all the trailers in shapes and sizes a guy could ever want. Still gotta work and had carry out most of the wood I get. No forests here, so a yard tree and cutting dead stuff out of rural shelter belts is what I do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We've made do with lesser equipment in places too. Truck's made to pull & haul, & wood's made to burn. Chains, straps, & the willingness to do what needs done is what matters. Nice job & nice score!
Yep been there and done that. Put the pickup in 4 wheel low and will drag almost anything. Pulled a few trees over that way too. Run what you brung.
Yep, I keep the log chain on the passenger floor of my F-150, but a lot of what I'm cutting of tops now I can't get the truck close enough, so have to wheelbarrow a bit. You do what you have to.
Oh boy, my least favorite woodgetting tool. The dreaded wheelbarrow. If there's snow, use this. Or similar. If there's no snow, use one of these.
I don't mind the wheelbarrow at all and that's the beauty of being 5 years ahead, you don't have to cut in the snow unless you want to.
That brings back good memories of our "old yeller" 1 ton 84 srw chebby. That thing took a few trees out with no chainsaw.
Ours was an ex pipefitters truck from a local large mechanical contractor. It was white, but they painted it yellow. The name stuck.
I guess I have become a bit spoiled with my ease of gathering. In my woods, I either skid to landing with tractor or split in woods and haul out with buggy. Just not used to having to do it "the hard way". I used to do a lot of "guerilla" cutting with my buddies back in the day. Carried and loaded a lot of big rounds back then. Glad I do not have to do it that way now. I may get back down there this weekend. I need to get access to another pasture which will be much easier getting in & out of the woods. There is no "easy" access to the wood, but there are better places to get at it than I am currently using. We'll be above freezing until next week it looks like, so may not be able to get in at all. Wish the danged ground would get hard and stay frozen!!
