Ah man I was looking at some beeches today and saw some weird code on one and didn’t take a pic. I’ll take a pic next week and see if someone can decipher. It’s deep in the woods so it might unleash demons.

That is so true! Next time I’m in the in laws woods I’m gonna get some pics. The beech are littered with love mementos from each of my wife’s aunts and uncles and whoever their boyfriend/girlfriend was that summer. Even some of her cousins have their own trees marked out. How does the saying go? What happens in the woods stays in the woods?

I’ve got one out back that my then girl friend and I staked a claim on Thanksgiving of 92’, escaping the packed house at the now in-laws.

I’ve always liked that form of graffiti

We had a beech die several years ago and it had a carving from 1950. Also one day while hunting in the UP I came across a beech with a carving that someone shot a bear in 1946.

It may be a "bearing tree". Kind of like a witness tree

I did that years and years ago with my wife's name. They cut that sucker down long ago. :(

    Always reminds me of this:

Ive seen that plnety of times on beech around here. Remember doing it with my pocket knife as a kid. My friend and i would climb the tree in front of my moms house and carve away. Tree died and was cut down years ago. Did you save the log or dont wanna make Mrs Rider suspicious???

Been meaning to take a pic of this beech at Ms. buZZsaw's moms place. House built 1968 and original owners. Her son carved "Ronnie" IMG_4597.JPG
