Heading out to go for a ride the other day. Was in a bit of a hurry and came around the corner of the garage looking to see if the key was in the ignition of the bike. And this is what I found. CRAP !!! How am I going to get that out of there. So glad I saw it BEFORE I pulled out. That would have got real ugly, real quick. Took 1.5 hours till it came out. Wife and I took turns watching the bike till it came out. There was no way I was going to leave till I saw it come out of the bike. 4' Ratt snake. There was another beside the bike. and another 2 days later on the wood pile behind the garage. All 4'.

I hate snakes, even the good ones, but I leave them alone. Thank goodness there aren't poisonous snakes in Maine.
He just likes the air in his face... the feel of the road on tight turns... the sound of the engine...

Years ago when I was a young LEO, I got dispatched to a call where a guy parked his car @ work next to a field and pond and left the windows part way down. He came out @ the end of the day hopped in his car and started to back out of the parking space. Felt something crawling up his right leg and looked down eye to eye with a 3' black snake which had taken up residence up in the underside of his dash board. Need I say more about his reaction.................It took almost and hour to get that snake out of his new hidy-hole...................
I saw Timber Rattler at a road side turn out in Acadia a couple years ago, just a few miles from my house. Watched him for awhile, then when I left I saw a Ranger a less than a mile away. I flagged him down and brought him back to the spot where I saw the snake, it was still there. The Ranger took a couple of pics, and said he would show them to a park wildlife biologist. I asked him to get back to me when he heard back from the biologist, never did hear back. I'm guessing the snake was "from away" and just decided to slither out from whatever vehicle he had ridden in at the roadside turn out.
you, I believe. I am glad that we have so few sightings. Maybe these harsh winters we are having will weed out those hitch hikers. I know we also are told there are no big cats here either, but they have been seen very infrequently and the state still denies there being any here.
Yep, there's no poisonous snakes in Maine. Just like the Wisconsin DNR absolutely refused that there were mountain lions in Wisconsin, even though people had seen them and had pictures of them. As of only 2 years ago or so, Wisconsin finally admitted they are here.
Well Mississauga rattlers used to be in the Milwaukee area. There was a bounty on them until 1975. For now, they are more to the western area of wisconsin near Lacrosse, Tomah area. I've got relatives or that way, mostly farmers and I've personally never seen rattlers, but I know my relatives have.
