Found this old friend in the MIL's barn. 1985 Crown Vic, 125,000 miles, the body and frame are solid as the car never saw winter roads. She is the original owner. I'm pretty sure it was just parked in the mid 90's, not put away properly. It's got a lot of sentimental value for the wife and I as it was her car to drive in HS when we started dating. What do you think it' worth as it sits, I was thinking $1000. I'm not looking to buy it, just volunteered to sell it for her.
Fancy car for a HS girl to drive! Or did she have a chauffeur? Why not just grab it for yourselves? Might be nice to go out on a date or three just the way you used to.
$1000 tops, and that's if it will start. It'll need tires, all fluids changed, brakes checked for seizure, brake lines, and brake hoses inspected, suspension bushings are probably brittle and toasted, hoses and belts probably dry rotten, etc. Whoever buys it will easily have another grand worth of tires and parts into it before I'd consider it safe.
Having something with uniqueness is cool in my opinion. Those old gun Boats had a nice smooth ride. You would have something no one else drives. But, selling it if you don’t need it is understandable. If you spend a little time and clean it up really good it should bring that much. Does it start up and run no problem?
125 k miles isn’t much for today’s cars but in 1985 that was a lot! Ask $1200 and go lower as needed. Good luck.
First, pull it out of the barn with a chain. Check for leaks. (Don't try to start it in the barn) Check the oil/trans fluid, throw an old battery and new fuel in it, and see if it will start/run/drive. and check for leaks again If it seems good Drive it to a garage carefully. Get it checked out. Especially the brakes and lines. Put a few miles on it. Give it the ultimate cleaning. Go on a few dates. And use it for a work car or put it up for sale. If its nice and runs good its worth $1000
Crazy!! My highschool interest had one too (borrowed from his mom), looks like the same year. It was maroon. Holy Cow does that bring back memories. For sure take a ride down memory lane before selling it.
It's tax return time right now and everybody is 5K LOADED ! Start high and work down. There's no telling what that will bring .
My gf had an 89 Crown Vic in high school. I always wondered why her dad got her that car. Tho I enjoyed it. My daughter will get a motorcycle! No back seat!
You'd be amazed what can be done with the right amount of 'balance'. Of course, there's always out of the way places to pull over and 'enjoy the scenery'.
