About a cord (maybe a bit less) of cherry logs. Needs bucked, picked up, and split. I was thinking 40$ US. But not sure if its worth that much.
around my parts that would be low by at least $40/ 128cf log cord and then it is Cherry which mostly brings a premium of about $20 more per
Your right on the money! It's not cut, seasoned, or split. And you have to go get it... Should be Free...
I wouldn't have to think about it. It is halfway decent firewood. But around me they're getting $300 a cord for it where red oak is only $250. SO I wouldn't grab it for firewood I'd grab it to sell for $300 cut and split.
I havent paid anything for any wood yet. Paying a small amount for a more "desirable" wood speciez may be worth ir
As a general rule, I won't pay for firewood. I did buy wood my first year as I had no wood when I started...
$10 for what wound up being 1/2 cord. There was a lot more than it looked. Probably 3 cords. Now if I had room and time I would take it all.
$10 for a half cord seems like a pretty decent deal to me. But I don't have an abundance of cherry available here. Don't know that I'd seek it out, but sounds like you got a fair bit of wood for a 10 spot.
You're saying it brings more than oak for firewood there? Why? I know it seasons quicker but does the market realize that?
Around here there are many that use it as smoker/cook wood. On top of that its not as common as oak. Generally it goes for pretty close to the same cost as oak.
That's what 50 dollars more means. Coastal community. Lotsa gated communities, private beaches. Million dollar + homes in the southern part of town, 1/2 a mill in the northern part of town. What greater way to impress the neighbors and friends than a good looking and smelling fire in the chiminea . Move over white birch in the fireplace for aesthetics, we've got nice smelling and looking cherry.
I would have been all over it for $10 for a 1/2 cord. I sold "HOLIDAY SEASON " cherry firewood for $20 for a 6 cubic foot bin last year.
There is a local guy who sells cherry/apple/ fruit wood for a premium. Does really well selling it too. I think a lot of folks just like aroma and thought of burning some ‘exotic’ wood. On a side note, paying for wood is not always a bad thing. I’m blessed enough to be able to cut all I want on 400 acres 20 miles away, no charge. That said I am happy to help at the ranch. It’s give and take. If she wanted to charge me I’d gladly pay it, as its so awesome to have a private area with gated access to cut. Also pig hunting! Years ago I had a hookup with a tree service. I’d gladly offer 20-40$ when a dump truck of rounds would show up. They never accepted, but Fact is I would have spent more in fuel to go cut that wood and haul it home. I like to do it, but still they are doing me a favor. That said...I wouldn’t go buy wood, kinda against what we like to do, but sometimes there is a time for it. Im usually on the selling end!
After the first year, it was reported that Tim was seen holding a sign at the truck stops near a logging area that said "TRUCKERS I'LL TAKE YOUR WOOD FOR FREE!"
Same here, I bought a little my 1st year but I generally try to never pay for firewood. However I wouldn't be opposed to put out a little money for a good deal like that especially if it put me ahead.
