How many of you plan what kind of wood you burn on Christmas day? This year I will be burning apple, last year was birch. I've never tried apple in my stove and to date it will be the highest btu firewood that I will have burned. For someone like me who rarely has to season wood for more than 6 months its been hard staring at my little stack of apple splits for the past two years. Most of what I burn is standing dead softwood that needs only a short time to dry in my stacks. Id like to hear from others to see if this is a common practice with wood burners.
Because it will be warmer here in the east, I'll be burning what we've been burning this month, more Cherry.
Maybe just wrapping paper. Its supposed to be warm. If we drop enough Christmas Eve, maybe a split or 2 of poplar for ambience........ oh well......
Yeah I guess so... I didnt even think about the heat wave when I posted. I guess were a bit more fortunate out west this year. Hope it cools down for you soon!
Given the forecast I think I'll be burning through gin and tonics. Maybe sunscreen depending on what the afternoon looks like.
I'll be burning a cigar, it's going to be in the 60s here on Christmas day! They're talking almost 70 on Christmas Eve day!
I'm planning on only burning the fruitcakes that are under 20% moisture content.. That should be pretty much every fruitcake, right? I'll be actually burning cherry and maybe hickory since those two smell so great. It might change to cherry and pine or box elder since I'll be cooking a prime rib and I don't want to cook out my parents from the house.
Yeah we have to consider our guests when loading the stove as well. Some love the heat but others have told me its to warm. Im surprised that people would find 71 to warm! Having the cooking stove on as well as the wood stove can get things warm for sure! Prime rib sounds amazing! Enjoy.
