what type of wood is this?

    It is not maple that i know for sure, feels relatively light. Mostly aspen, birch and maple around here but this is none of those.

    I’m going to guess and say it’s some kind of elm.

    Black Walnut? Not sure on that, but every time I see wood that dark I automatically think bw.

    I should have checked. You’re right, Quebec is too far north for Black Walnut.

    Looks like walnut but if you split it it may be greenish inside. My guess is tulip poplar

    Here’s why I say tulip Poplar. I was cutting these logs thinking it was a
    Species of oak or Walnut but it was tulip poplar. Green heartwood. You would never guess.

    Don't think I've ever seen poplar with center that dark....
