Just curious about what the makeup of splitters is amongs us. Is there a a popular brand splitter, or are we all over the map with them as with everything else (stoves, saws....).

I've got the Ariens 22 ton.

How do you like that Ariens, Machria? I keep seeing it at Home Depot, and I like the way the motor is positioned out of the way. Looks well built too..

Love it. Very light compared to the others, compact at 38" compared to 48"+ for the rest. My storage space is very limited, so that was my deciding factor. The fact everything is mounted up and out of the way gives you tons of space to load and unload the beam. All the other splitter I've looked at in person seemed like the tire and/or axel would be dead smack in the way, not to mention splits would be falling down onto the motor, controls, fuel tank, filter... The 22 Ariens is designed very smartly.

I prefer my fiskars but dad loves to use the old slow dinosaur. It's a converted rim crusher from a scrap yard. He added the auto crane a few weeks ago.
