Because it is what I call it, I know I'm right . I know it varies from region to region, but its just that everyone else is wrong. What is "pigs in a blanket", because it is burger mixed with pork sausage and rice, seasoned and wrapped in cabbage leaves, then cooked in stewed tomatoes.
I've had pancake and bread (similar to crescent roll). I don't really care, they all sound delicious but I'd like to try the cabbage/tomato one, sounds yummy!
What you describe I would call it stuffed cabbage , a similar mixture we also stuff in peppers. In fact stuffed peppers was dinner last night , had a bunch of peppers I had to pick before frost so that was one way to use some of them. #2 on your list is what I would vote for.
I believe meat wrapped in cabbage is a PIAB. A hot dog (or similar cylindrical shaped meat portion) wrapped in a dough is an Americanized version. And yes, regional differences...
We call that "cabbage rolls in Tomatoes"! Most that I know would identify "PIBs" with the hotdogs in biscuit dough.
We'll be making pigs in a blanket with a couple of different dipping sauces for Sunday when we have some friends over.
Western NY here and PIAB are cabbage rolls or golumpki. Definitely gotta make those soon, wonderful cold weather meal.
