Sorry I haven't posted much the past two months guys and gals, I've just been way too busy. With work, doing tree removals and now this.....we finally broke ground on our sidewalk/patio/pizza oven project! It's been several years in the planning/saving money stages, and we broke ground on the project there weeks ago....

The misery was the beginning.......a TON of digging had to be done to properly prepare for the concrete work. I subbed out the concrete, being I've never done dyed and stamped concrete before. We chose an old Chicago herringbone pattern, done in brick red with a charcoal release (accent color). They started digging in a Wednesday, this is what I came home from work to that day....

And to add a twist to the drama, Mother Nature decided to drop around 4" of rain the next two days. I literally had a MOAT around the house!!!

After we got the water out, the forms started going up......the front and deck side walkways were first to be formed and poured, to help establish step height and grade for the patio in the back yard.....

They were poured with red dyed concrete and dusted with the charcoal release agent, then stamped with the silicone herring bone brick stamps.

After a day or so, the dark release agent gets powerwashed off to reveal the red bricks. It's looking pretty good!!

From the size of the excavator, I thought this was going to be a BIG pizza oven. Side walks look great. Patio done yet?

That is really cool- looks great so far! Although if you could somehow incorporate the moat and a drawbridge back into the scene, you'll get two thumbs up!

I got most of the grade redone out front around the new walkways. I added more dirt against the foundations and swaged it down towards the walkways, something I've wanted to do for many years now. Did I also mention the porch is getting stone pillars and a herringbone brick over lay to match the sidewalk? That will happen last....

We've started forming up the back walkway and steps now, the patio will be last to get formed and poured. We're hoping to do the back wall and steps tomorrow, watching the weather closely. More pics once we pour the back walkway....

Not yet, that will hopefully, weather permitting, happen before the end of the week. I'm on vacation all week so I'm gonna work to the bone to get as much done as I can this week. I have a line of an 1830s barn that was torn down in the next valley over, I'm hoping to get the foundation stone from it for our patio and flowerbed walls and for the pizza oven. I'll be making a drive over there tomorrow to see if it's mine.

Some alligators in the moat would keep pizza thieves away.

    Nice work!

As always, it's done Overkill style:thumbs:
