Went to the high country for some mushrooms. Unfortunately didn't take to many pictures. The chanterelles were just starting so we got about 4 lbs of those. Ran into some fresh "Chicken of the Woods" or Sulphur Shelf as some call it. The orange color is quite arresting in the dark woods. Buddy got about 7 lbs of lobster mushrooms. Then we went way high for Boletes. Got some nice White King Boletes and some Admirable Boletes. Did more driving than real hunting. It was very warm and pleasant! 20190905_102027_resized.jpg 20190905_133239_resized.jpg 20190905_135343_resized.jpg

Great way to spend a day in the woods! Even better way to spend dinner later on!

If it is hard and woody, I would say it is some weird variant of Western Varnished Conk. If it is soft and easily breakable like a store bought mushroom then I have no Idea!

Up high again for chanterelles. A few pictures, one of MT. Rainier from the lowlands at a scenic stop on the way. Caught the sun just rising behind the mountain. Bunch of cows in the fog but probably can't see them. Few more mountain pictures from high up and some fairy gold in the forest. Bumper crop of chanterelles this year! 20190925_072703.jpg 20190925_072725.jpg 20190925_093231.jpg 20190925_145416.jpg 20190925_132650.jpg

Apparently the chanterelles are abundant around here this year too.

Best spot I ever hit for chanterelles was an uninhabited island off the coast of Maine. It was mid August and they were everywhere. They must have liked the cool moist air.
