Today marks the day of Recognition for Vietnam Veterans. I went to the services offered at the VA Togus. Our governor and several others stood up to say thank you and welcome home. I was interviewed by the local newspaper Togus ceremony honors Vietnam vets, families - Central Maine
Glad you went to the VA for this event Larry. We saw it on the chan 6 news tonight. I thought the few clips of the Gov and others were really good and long over due. What did you think of the whole event?
About an hour long, all positive. No long winded speeches. Time left for the vets to mingle around with each other. Lots of organizations reaching out to help. PTSD is hell. With the depression that went with it, I was at a point of doing something that today, I would have deeply regretted. death is highly over rated. I am so glad I reached out for help. The isolation that so many of us seek to hide in only makes the black hole deeper and darker. I've met some great people and feel better about things now. It is a day to day thing, but I know I have a lot of support. The brother and sisterhoods were have here are a lot like the support group. People willing to help, and usually not going to sling mud.
It was hell for my brother, he was homeless and living on the streets and in and out of jail. He finally drank himself to death. That's the reality of PTSD. He was point man on 6 man LRRP teams with 2 tours.....R.I.P. my brother.
Your service to our country is very much appreciated. Thank you to all who have served in any and all capacities.
Some may not care for the singer/band. But, IMHO, they did a good job of capturing the spirit of this country. The person who put this slide presentation together with the song did a nice job as well. Our Veterans did/do the best job of all.
