I'm going to sign up for va med benefits tomorrow let you know how smooth (or not ) it goes. I'm retiring at 64 so I am not able to get medicare for a year , so I figure go this route instead of cutting a check for the next year
Chazsbetterhalf is retired as well, she's 66 and has kept VA medical rather than Medicare. Your Mileage May Vary. Are you close to a VA hospital? That is our only complaint, we often have to travel to Buffalo for some procedures. That ends up often burning 8 hrs of vacation time at work. Good luck.
ok so I went a week later. had my 10-ez filled out. I made too much money last year to qualify.started to figure out my options. got a call today they reviewed my app & I was within 10 per cent of the limit so I am eligible
Glad they reviewed your status. Yeah, their income limits seem on the low side. Chazsbetterhalf & I combined annual income is just above $50K/ yr. She has some co-pays that don't apply to me as I've got service related injuries. But overall, have little to complain about. When she was hospitalized around 18 months ago, hospital bill was right around $10K, we were responsible for around $1500. We are very fortunate to have VA coverage. Coverage through my employer would be $500+/mo. Which would equate to roughly 30% of my monthly income.
so I called to setup my 1st app. with a primary care DR. & I could see 1 in a week wow I guess things are much better now MAGA
Sometimes. Other times it could be month or two out. Then again I had to get in this week right away. Bug bite causing the side of neck to swell and across to my should. He told me to come on down. I don't think I was there 15 min. So never knows.
so Monday I went down & got my picture taken . the guy said 1-2 weeks I'll get it , it showed up Thursday. I wish ssa was this fast lol
VA has come a long ways. Many improvements. A hard part was getting people to do their jobs, not to just get paid. There are many changes. I get care there. Only 3 miles from my home. My daughter runs the ER there. (Togus VA Center) They are always having construction there. Yet it is the oldest VA hospital in the Nation. You wouldn't know it to look at it. Only a few buildings of the old still standing.
had my 1st primary care visit today they were great . treated me better than any other system I have been in
I'm now full VA! I really like the guy I'm seeing as well. As savemoney said, the VA has come a long ways.
