I've probably built a dozen ugly drum smokers,but I was using drums made in russia.....this will be my first domestic drum build
Got it deheaded and cleaned up the jagged edge with a cutoff wheel,then hit it with a flap disc so nobody gets cut
Knocked most of the dents out....I'll wash the inside and then burn it out before starting construction.
Nice. Building for yourself? I built one a while back, gotta pull that out one of these days, stuffed in back of garage. It does work great though.
yeah its for me...i have one with a dome top,this will be flat top....ill prolly use it for a while then give it away and build another one!!!
2nd drum deheaded....grape juice cover don't fit...its about 3/8 too small so I sliced the barrel 180° apart and put a ratchet strap around it and melted it back together
Got all my holes drilled,pressure washed with dawn and burned out the top and bottom seams with a weed burner and washed a couple more times...working on stripping the paint from the inside of the cover...can't burn it off cause it'll warp
Sanded down and a light coat of primer....I usually don't use primer but I wanted a uniform color before I start my "art work" Coat of black on the bottom keep the rust away for at least a little
