    Two different trees, take a guess, I'll post the answer at 7:15.

    Could it be pignut? I only see one photo, so I'm not sure what you mean by the second tree (two different trees). Those 2 little slightly out of focus ones in the background are maples with the 3rd one a beech? :cool:

    The two bigger ones in the picture are two different trees.

    Ah, only the left half of your photo is showing up, you have to click on it to see the whole photo.

    EDIT: I got you now!

    EDIT: Right tree B disappeared again?

    A = Ash, B = Basswood.

    When I looked at them I thought both were Ash, then I checked the leaves.

    I remember someone from another forum had the ok to cut down certain trees that he thought were Ash, they ended up being Basswood.

    I thought possibly ash, but my local white ash here look a little darker and less deeply furrowed than that one.

    Did you get a close enough look at the leaves to ID weather it is White Ash or one of the others? (I don't even know what the differences in the leaves might be...)

    No, I will get something for this weekend, I'm thinking it's White Ash but I'll make sure.

    Guide sez Black Ash: Broadly lance-shaped, 7-11 leaflets, stalkless. Tufts of rust-colored hairs along midvein. Green and White, 5-9 but usually 7 leaflets. Green, coarsely saw-toothed or almost without teeth. White, finely saw-toothed or almost without teeth. Tough ID!

    Very interesting. They look very similar. It seems ash (green) here were a bit darker and deeply furrowed and the basswood is similar, but bark was softer.

    The ash was easy but not so much easy for the bass.

    I think so, too.
    I didn't see it before, but they also say Green Ash leaves are shiny...
