Below are pics from a tall thin tree that came down when a larger tree fell on it. Any thoughts on what it may be. Trying to decide if I should go back for it.

Alternate branching twigs. This is in Baltimore, MD. The reddish fuzzy looking things in the photo are from a weed, not the tree. Thanks in advance.

Nice, I was hoping you’d say that! Second ash score since the storms then. This must have been a young tree? Will get it in the morning! Thanks!

Nice tree there - we love ash and have a ton of it around here for now. EAB is just starting to make itself known.

I counted 35 growth rings, so it's a young tree... Because it has one less growth ring than I do. ;)

Ash has opposing branch/twigs not alternate.

    Welcome to the forum John.

Indeed get all that you can. In addition to good firewood, it splits like a charm. Red fuzzy things look like blackberries.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Been lurking and learning from here for a while now. I went back this morning and brought home a decent amount.
The way the tree fell over a sunken gulley like area made me a little nervous to go much further. Pics below. I found a few cut rounds of magnolia as well which will work in the outdoor fire pit. It’s all split and drying now.

Thanks for the help. I may try to bite more off of this and work from the end. Figured I should think about it first to determine how safe it may or may not be.

The red stuff is a native Maryland weed. Can't think of the name right now, but I get that in my yard as well. In the summer it grows as a leafy stalk like week, then dies and becomes the red prickly stuff.

First post looked like Tulip poplar to me, twigs look like basswood. Hard to tell, maybe it is Ash. Burn it.

John, wrap a chain around the butt end & skid it out on the flat, much easier working that way.
