Ive been spying this standing dead tree for a couple years. Upper limbs losing bark. Right next door to my friends where i store wood and in his neighbors yard where ive cut wood many times in that time slot. It "survived" tropical storm Isaias, several good wind storms despite neighboring trees being blown over. I finally decided to cut it down even though i dont want the wood. I was working on the pin oak the other day and took a break to check it out. Chopped off some bark and surprise...its not what i thought it was. I now know what it is and will reveal the answer Wednesday night a with matching pic. Whaddaya think FHC? It has a smaller dead twin still attached which will come down as well. I will reveal the answer Wednesday evening and will not confirm or deny any guesses. I you want to know if your guess is right or wrong PM me!
Sorry guys, gotta make this a little suspenseful! Chud you win the gratification of knowing you guessed right.
Im glad it isnt. This black locust from Sackett Point had the biggest PI vine ive ever seen. I cut it in September with short sleeves and ended up getting some rash on my arms.
brad just let it be known that poison ivy vine is going to give me nightmares ...... i ro believe it trumps the largest vine ive seen
Unless that was a giant Locust or Hickory I'd have a really hard time getting motivated to work around that wooly mammoth of a poison ivy vine for that wood.
Honestly I won’t mess with any wood with poison ivy on it. Not worth it in any way shape or form. Backwoods Savage knows this.
I wonder if a vine has been growing on a tree for years, even if you remove the vine, are the oils soaked into the bark? I'd rather not find out the hard way.
I don't know the answer to that but I do know you can get PI in February from putting wood in the OWB.
I’m guessing cottonwood. Did you not want it before you chipped the bark off or has your mind changed because of what you now know the tree is?
