Was going good today, normally cut/split a cord to a cord and a half most weekend days at a friend’s ranch. Splitter spit out a twisted piece of live oak on retraction today. Busted my lips, inside and out. Still got a decent load, and cutting more tomorrow. Still beats work! 58B7F8EE-E089-4303-AFF2-3100568D86A1.jpeg 80D43D73-2FB7-4C97-B931-CFC5FA5887CA.jpeg E7E41D7B-8069-4D22-83BF-AD1BCB995E75.jpeg 9559AB0D-9573-4B3C-9F1A-3A2A5CBCAB95.jpeg

Amazing the amount of energy that can be stored in one of those splits! I’ve never caught one in the face but have had some pop off and hit my hand. Bet you’ll be feeling it in the morning!

I'm glad it didn't hit up by the eyes.

    Stay safe.

Ouch, good thing it didn’t knock out any teeth. Looks like a great place to get wood.

    Yowser!! :startled:
So glad it wasn't worse, Justin!!
    Heal quickly, my friend.

I was up at the neighbor's last spring and had a piece that didn't want to split. It started that pop pop pop pop squeeking then bam! Spit the piece out the side and hit me on the hip. It almost knocked me to the ground. (And i ain't no lightweight!)
It's amazing how much pressure that splitter can build up!!

I have a habit of turning away when i see the wedge stop. Glad i didn't take that one in the jewels...:faint:

    Ouch!

Had a similar experience this past early fall while using the splitter. It shot out a piece of hardwood that thankfully missed both 99 lbs and myself.

    Definitely an eye-opener!

Yikes, scary stuff. Good thing it wasnt your eye! Ive been around hydros and can see how they can suddenly "pop" splits. Plus it can get monotonous using one and it only takes a second to happen.
Good safety reminder for all of us. Thanks for sharing!

Are you sure thats what happened? Did Mrs. Reddingnative give you a knuckle sandwich cuz you hoard too much wood?
