Through eight seasons with the boiler and getting ready for number nine. It’s time to replace the main ceramics in the burn chamber.

Just after unwrapping them where I set them in the detached garage.

Moved them a couple at a time down into the basement. Also a box of replacement parts to go with. New blanket that goes under them, new plug for front end of main tube under the nozzle, new nozzle bricks, and some troweling mix for filling in any small gaps/spaces.

Hopefully this weekend I will make time to get the boiler room cleaned up nice and get this job done. I’ll try to remember to take some pictures while completing the job.

Could you lay a tape measure across one of the sections? It would be interesting to know how big they are and how much they weigh.

40.4 lbs each for the full size ones. Six of them. Two half thickness for one end.

The whole pallet with other goodies weighed in at 397lbs.

Time to put some tunes on and clean up the boiler room this morning.

    The project begins.....

You can see the main ceramics were to the point of breaking away on both sides of the “bridging” bricks.

I would say with eight seasons in it appears I got my use out of them.

You can see how the holes started to make it through from the main burn chamber above to the right and left tunnels. 9F4EB0DB-1CFA-445E-B977-3EBCC67EF7E9.jpeg 8F8B3733-3A42-4A24-B4A5-D434484BFEFF.jpeg

:DSo I’m at a stand still now. The blanket that goes under the new ceramics is missing a piece. I had to call AHS to tell them something was wrong. I couldn’t figure out how to make the three pieces of blanket fit right. So the tech had me measure all three pieces and said ya someone made a mistake. So they are sending me another piece. Should be here end of week.

Not that I have such a gasifier, but was wondering if pointing up those bubbles with some refractory would add life? Especially in the flame path....
    upload_2019-10-1_19-1-51.jpeg

Perhaps you do that already Gasifier, just wondering out loud.

This is the first time I’ve replaced the main ceramics. They gave me a small bucket of troweling material for filling in along the edges/gaps. I don’t know about the bubbles/holes. I could try to fill them after I get them all installed.

They'll fill with ash right quick. I wouldn't bother.

    There’s an option.
