They also probably dont dry as well if you are in a rush. This is the furst time i have touched this stack in almost two and ahalf years, double stacked on pallets with cribbed ends and topcovered. Anybody else play a sort of jenga with their wood? A little bit better than a cord left yet to move into the barn!

I split and stacked 3 face cord this past weekend and when I stood back I saw just how tight they were! Not much for airspace but just exactly how they should be if you have the time for it to dry slower. This stuff was cut 2-3 years ago, so it'll be good for a slow dry-by next year or 16' before it's used.

Thats how I stack them except triple stacked on a pallets lined up, I cut everything 14" length so my help can handle the bigger rounds, I also use fence posts because my help said it takes to long to jenga the ends. Can you tell that 2 of my 3 helpers are teen girls yet…lol, But they are great helpers.
2-3 years covering the top in winter has worked great, looks like you split on the medium/small size like I do, that really helps dry tight stacked.

Yup, split small. The door on my boiler is small and if i want to fully charge my storage tanks in one load then i need to really pack the firebox tight. Consistant 20" splits will be in next years burn.

I build double rows on pallets as well. All my splits are 20-24" long. They have stayed up well. The longer the splits are seems to make the stacks more steady. One of the benefits of a longer burn chamber I guess. Another is getting long burn times when it is -10 outside. I got to see some real world challenge for the system last winter. Boy, that was a fun winter for burning wood! Kinda getting psyched for burning again. Kinda. :Yar:

I like nice tight stacks too - they just look cooler to me! I've been known to move a split 4-5 times while I'm stacking to get the best fit. Good to know they should still hold up after a few years!

Step away from the "post reply button", you are too close to the "post reply button".

I try to stack tight; but I'm still amazed how much the stacks settle downward and shift from side to side.

Haven't lost a stack yet though!!!

I probably stack more firewood in a day than many stack in a year. Let's just say I'm pretty darn good! Hahaha!

I double stack on pallets. Usually I try to use the bogey method of sticking a pole through the two stacks to tie then together. Works good

i've made exactly one tight stack i was very proud of, and one of my dogs made sure it wasn't long lived. her name is katerina, but has the nickname of bulldozerina because she loves to plow into things.

i stack mine moderately loose, and either just stack on landscaping timbers, or the rig that i posted on the other site a couple years ago where you use 3 cinder blocks, 2 landscaping timbers, and 2x4s as the ends sticking up from inside the cinder blocks. all of my stacks are individual face cords with walking space in between. maybe i should post that up here for people that may like it.

I have photos on my phone, but this site doesn't do well with iphone so I can't post them. Have a video I made too, but it's too big for me to upload to YouTubes.

Also too pics of the shop stove yesterday, can't post those either.
