The first weekend of firewood season, that is. Supposed to be a high of about 73° on Sat and 70° on Sunday and in the 40's at night. I won't start burning yet, that's probably later in September, but it's gonna be cool enough to start cutting. I haven't picked up a saw since May and I'm itching to get the woodshed filled. I got a lot to do and I couldn't ask for more perfect weather.
Perfect wood cutting weather! I look forward the the upcoming months more than any other time of the year. I love flannel shirt season!!!
I hear you Jon_E and I absolutely love this weather! Make me also anxious for hunting season! That cuts into some good wood cutting weather but I love deer hunting as much as I love the wood cutting.
Your right Jon_E !!! The real question is how do you convince your trees to not fall over and lose branches in these summer storms
I did a "knock-n-talk" with a homeowner about a few small trees taken down. Some maple and ornamental cherry. He wants it gone. My time is already spoken for today. But I'll be up, out, and scrounging early Saturday morning. Just a couple miles away. I hope it's still there
But it requires me to run saw and kubota to clean it up.. I lost 4 trees since May .. One last week. I don't run saw when icy..
I snoozed. I loozed. Roadside scrounge was already gone. So, off to my SIL's where I had cut some small trees down, a few months ago. A mix of some kind of oak, maple, hickory, and a few pieces of white pine. That pile is about 4 deep in the middle. Not a huge haul, but every bit helps.
The tongs were also put to good use at WeldrDave's place. Pulling logs out from among the brush, loading/unloading. I'm sure Midwinter is giving hers a good workout there. Wish I had them for the last 32 years, instead of just the last 2.
I envy you guys with cool temps. Will be a little cooler here next week, been brutal. Lows at night 77 degrees? Yuck.
That Envy wears off in January when it's 30 below in 3 feet of snow. But right now it's a beautiful 64°
I think you are correct. I was up and at ‘me early today slitting some rounds in the woods. Two trips to the wood yard. About ten, it was a couple degrees warmer. Enough to get the bugs flying. Took a nap. There is a little more to get, so I will probably get them split before leaving for work tomorrow. It is starting to get there!
Ok.. so it's no longer weekend. Was nice and cool this morning, so out to split some quarter rounds of red oak. Split, load, roll, stack. I need to top off the middle stack.
The oak was felled 2/17. Nice to split straight grained oak Some bark was peeling right off Middle rack full. Time to start loading the one left.
Pile of quarters all gone. But on the other side of stone wall has more Here's the area where M2theB and I, have been cutting logs into rounds. I'll be focusing my efforts in there over the next several weeks. I have some noodling ahead of me.
