The Wood Wolverine 1, Hollow monster 0

This big ‘ol maple tree has been directly across the street, staring at me for a long time. When the old couple got moved out and the new young couple moved in, they asked me about the possibility of removing it. That was years ago. I’ve been intimidated because I could see it was totally hollow. Well today I got that wild hair...

Decided to cut off both “limbs”.


First went down no problem in their driveway. The next was going on the road. So I waited for the right time and down it went.

Had it tied off and as soon as it hit, the neighbor drug it off the road with his truck and then we scrambled to clean up debris.

The trunk is completely hollow.


As were the limbs. It was an eyesore.


And the base is left.









Everything went as planned, this time. I’m glad for it!

The neighbor is taking all this wood to his place of employment to burn. As far as I'm concerned, it's all trash.

 

That thing was really hollow all through it.
Sometimes when you think about something long and hard enough a plan comes together. I would say your plan worked out good.

I wouldn't want that wood either. You'd have a heck of a time trying to stack it with the pieces all twisted and irregular.

It’s scary when you’re cutting the back cut and you realize there isn’t enough resistance and you’re cutting a lot of air.

 

No doubt! While cutting off the first limb I hear a big pop. Spooked me a bit but didn't fall.

 

I did a big red maple that was Hollow next to my power lines in august last year I wanted it down ... leaders were trees

Strong work, bro! That thing probably wasn’t going to stay up much longer. It was an accident waiting to happen.

 

That’s gotta feel good getting that tree taken care of. Don’t have to look at it every time you pull out of the drive thinking to yourself how you ought to take care of it! I bet your neighbor appreciates you nice work and nice job getting it done safely!

Looks like fun, scary, but fun. How was the adrenaline factor? Brave on your part to drop in road. I assume its not a heavy traffic road? Wasnt much meat keeping it alive. Dont blame you for not wanting the wood either.

Yes, they were very appreciative. Tried real hard to give me 2 hundreds but I wasn't having it! Told him a twenty would be fine for gas and oil. He ended up giving my wife forty. It's all about helping for me. Feels great to give more than take.

I had a little adrenaline hit when I heard that pop. Other than that all went as planned. It can be a heavy traffic road but we waited for the right time and did not have to stop anyone. One or two cars drove through some light sticks/dirt but there was no drama in it. I told them repeatedly this tree would have come down on its own very soon. Kinda why I became motivated to do it.

Err, ya.. about that. This old eye sore was a haven for starlings. Nasty birds. Very very messy and are known to nest rob other species. I hate 'em! I did see one dead baby laying on the ground but honestly I didn't feel bad for it. I've shot them while invading finch nests before. One less arsehole bird around my property.

I'll remember that for future ventures!

That's my house. Those 2 tree's need removed for sure. I have powerline, cable tv line, my house, my fence all in the way. We plan to contact the power company and see if they will piece them down. Just been procrastinating, but we discussed it with the neighbor, since their ugly tree is gone, it's time to take ours out too.
