A tree service did some work right across the street from my office earlier this week. They cleared up quite a bit of brush, but left a 20' section of oak on the ground. A creampuff scrounge, it was topped and limbed already and ripe for the taking. I drove over this morning and started bucking. The 372 clone was cutting like a dream... Until it wasn't. I hadn't realized that I dipped the tip of the bar into about half an inch of earth until it was too late. The sandy soil turned a sharp chain into a butter knife pretty quick! No matter, I got a dozen rounds loaded and that's good for now. I'll see this one again soon.
When I hand filed, I hated when that happened. Nice score. It’s a good idea to carry and extra loop in case this happens. Just swap it and keep going.
Gotta like a cream puff scrounge now and then. Nice straight wood too. Yeah, as Jason said, an extra loop of chain goes a long way. I used to stop and file but quicker to swap out the dull one or switch saws if you have more than one with you.
Storm just passed through. A few good bolts of lightning and downpoured. Weird getting T storm in November!
Only once as a kid. We were out playing in the snowstorm and all the sudden flash of lightning and thunder soon there after. Needless to say we ran into the house!
Nice scrounge. A buncha easy ones make the big spring push a lot less demanding. After playing farmer with my saw a few times (digging furrows in the ground) I carry 4 or 5 spare chains. Fuel up, chain off, back to to playing sawyer. That was an awesome storm. Will check the pile covers tomorrow morning. Good wind. Was wishing for snow though. Sca
I always carry extra chains because you never know when a mistake might happen. Changing a chain is quick and easy. Some nice looking oak rounds that you were able to get so far.
Last three times we had thunder snow it was followed by ice. It's kinda cool, but I'm not a huge fan. Nice work on the Oak rainking63 ! I do like others mentioned & carry spare chain & usually 3-4 extra saws.
