Been using one off and on at my daughters, tonight i really put it to the test. 18'' blocks 18'' in diameter green OAK. . Most were one strike. A couple did bounce it pretty good, but, the second strike and it was done, split pretty easily. This was the one with the totally black handle, my new one, with the orange top on the handle does the same thing. I'm glad to say, they seem like a pretty good axe, it does take some getting used to when you have a 36'' handle. But at least you don't have to worry about the handle shrinking, or the head coming off, or busting the handle with a over strike. At this time, i'll give it a 10, for me anyway. Think its a 6.5lb head, would like a 7, maybe a 7.5 lb head. I think the splitting maul is a 8 lb head.

My 8 lb Fiskars will be here this coming friday, thought i'd try one out just for the heck of it. When i go cutting wood again, i'll let the grandson break it in. Perfect maul for him, supposedly unbreakable handle, we'll see, lol.

I got the x27 about a year and a half ago and really liked it. I then got the 8 lb splitting maul and used it some last year. Was impressed with it also.

Love my X27 and actually broke it in March and they replaced it free of charge. I had the X25 with a shorter handle and lost it roadside. Still have a tendency to choke up on the 27. I dont sledge and wedge that often, otherwise id consider their Isocore maul.

I live my Fiskars. When I get large logs I quarter them with the splitter and as long as there are no knots, stack those pieces aside which I split by hand.

I just bought an x27 as well but haven't had a chance to test it out too much yet. I love the look of the Fiskars line and the lifetime warranty. Almost everyone that has one loves it so I figured I couldn't go wrong!

I love my x27! I don't even use my 8 pound Collins splitting maul anymore. The x27 is a good wedge driver also. I find the x27 is great at splitting green wood also. Just gota take smaller splits instead of going for the middle of the round.

I believe Fiskars advises against using g the x27 to drive wedges. I won't do it.

Not sure, but it might invalidate the lifetime guarantee.

I have the X25, X27, and the Isocore maul. The 27 is definitely my favorite. Use that thing on just about everything and kinda regret the isocore purchase but it serves its purpose from time to time.

I may have to look into getting the X27.
    I have the fiskars maul, 8# .
Its all I use to split. Did have it bounce a few times but that was on some really big rounds literally just cut. I Let them dry a few days and had no problem. Sounds like the X27 is a beast in its own right.

To me, X27 can handle everything I intend to split by hand. If the 27 can’t get it, then it should have gone to the log splitter anyway.

I agree. Mine does 90-95% of my splitting. The rest is noodled or sledge and wedge. Dont have a splitter. I had an X25 and lost it roadside in the leaves while scrounging. Had the X27 and never used it. Still find myself choking up on the handle when i split. Was at Home Depot the other day and almost bought an X25

I was referring to using the x27 to drive plastic wedges when falling trees. I agree I wouldn't use it to drive splitting wedges.

Two days in an over strike snapped the handle on mine. That long handle takes some getting used to.

broke mine in March. They replaced it MFMc. Waaranty claim was very simple and easy.
    See my threads
Broken F iskars! and Replacement for broken F iskars came today...no foolin'!
I had the X25 prior to my X27 and liked it better once i got used to the shorter than normal handle. Find myself choking up on the X27's handle frequently. I have a Collins axe as well and use that on occasion. Handle a little shorter and wider cutting edge.

Thanks. That’s really useful. Already done. Back it goes.
It split beautifully while it lasted. It really seems to strike with extra force.
