While remulching my flower beds I noticed several small snake skins present on the top. Grabbed a couple shovels full and noticed movement! Started lightly removing mulch and out popped a baby black snake, then another, and another and a whole bunch more! At one point I counted 30+ within 5 feet of me! Many of them were getting ready to shed there skin and the eyes were cloudy.
Never seen them before like that but glad to have them for all the bugs and mice they eat!

And yes I plan on getting another load of mulch for them to lay eggs in next year!

Just went back down and showed my son, still a bunch there. Several eggs haven’t hatched yet. His reply “Dad, can I take one and let him hatch in my tank”. Sure, errrr, errr, uh,uh maybe we better not my wife is much less understanding than my mother was!

Edit changed my mind going to put one egg in a Tupperware container and let the kids watch him hatch.

Wish me luck, if I never post on this board again y’all probably know why

Neat stuff!! Yes I'd require a locked down container but still fun.

The baby was not strong enough to hatch on his own or the egg was damaged while I was getting mulch out. I noticed a tiny hole and could feel movement, no progress over about 24 hours, I opened the egg with the kids watching he was no longer alive.

It was fun to try the kids loved it!
