It has been a cold winter here in sweden, lots of snow and tempratures low as -28 celcius.
I am almost pretty ready with the snow, and it is spring in my head. Got a lot of sawing to do this year so today i diceded that is is time to start with the trees i can reach.
After a whole season driving around the trees standing in the middel of the small garden its time for them to be firewood!
I have done some reading and looking at utube videos about stump removal, and i think for me the easy way is to get an old barrol over the stump en get a fire starting within.
I will keep u guys updated how long it is going to take and if this way of stump removal is easy, fast and efficent.
I will start the fire after about 2 hours from this post.

    Have a nice day all!

Good to hear from you! We are still getting snow, but the Spring equinox is March 20, so a big storm is expected. Your stump project looks cool!

I burn stumps to get rid of them. I use about 4 kilos of charcoal mounded as if I were going to cook, then I light the charcoal. Once it's all white, I cover the fire with a metal trash can lid or a piece of metal roofing and let it burn with a brick or 2 on top. Sometimes, for the larger stumps I may have to add more charcoal. Works great for me. I had one large ash stump burn for a week leaving a very large hole.

I had one burn for 9 days. It left a huge hole. Every piece of root must have burned.

That's good Ralphie. A neighbor had a big cottonwood and he tried to burn the stump. Didn't get much done yet.

It is the stump from this tree:

On small stumps like that I dig down 6", put an old ragged out chain and cut below ground. Mighty hard on chain but you can easily get one done before it needs to be reground.

Was burning a stump in my yard about a week ago. My neighbor and I don't get along. She called the cops on me. Cop came and was like wtf. Is this it? The caller said there was smoke filling the area. There is no smoke here. Filled him in on the situation and showed him the security cam videos of her trespassing and dumping leaves over my fence into my yard last fall. The other cops never followed up btw. Looks like we will be adding harassment to the list. More to this story at some point.

Oh and the fire department showed up in full gear. They laughed at the fire but were pizzed that they had to get all geared up and waste time. Fire chief showed up about 10 minutes later and told me to put it out since it was called in. He wasnt too happy either.

    Hej hej all all,

I used about 1 kilo charcoal mixed up with old dry fire wood, for what i can see so far the fire is going inside the stump.
It is taking longer then i thought it woulth, my ques is that its because of the cold weather (-15 celsius) and the stump beeing frozen, like the ground around it also. ( frost is in the ground for at least 3 feet)
I have never done something like this before, so lets see how it will go.

Maybe if you put the fire under the stump it will burn faster rather than having to burn top down?

Well, when you get done at least the area around the stump will lose the frost.

I always keep a pack of hotdogs with me when burning outside. The local fire leutanat laugh at me one day. Said you would get second degree burns trying to cook on that bonfire it was worth a shot.
