I got a late start on lunch and woke up the cold, sleeping oven.

I fired it with maple and some locust.

Hard fired for 45 minutes, not nearly as hot as when I cook pizza. I raked the coals out for 20 minutes to soak the bricks evenly.

Loaded it up, sweet potatoes in the back, pie and rolls. I put the rolls on top of three small stones to prevent scorched bottoms in a metal pan.

    IMG_6015.JPG

Apple crisp on deck waiting for the rolls to finish.

Everything out, the apple crisp is all by itself in the oven.

Yes, that is "F H C' in the crust. Eye rolls from the wife.

Ready to go. The rolls and the crust were store bought, full disclosure. The sweet potatoes were glazed with butter, salt and brown sugar. A marshmallow or two or three to round it out.

Piping hot, bubbly apple crisp out.

Vanilla ice cream on top. A hint of cinnamon in the crust. Yes, Woodwidow, there is lots of butter in this.

What are these cakes like? Spiced? Glazed?

Most people call them English Fruitcakes and make fun of them. I make them now and we eat them for Christmas. Very little batter and lots of nuts, dried and candied fruit in them. After they are cooked, I wrap them and store them away in my cold room for the flavors to meld. Some people add rum or Drambuie to them. I also make a lighter version but it still has butter for the flavor.

Seriously? I officially name you executive chef at the spring FHC g2g. The stuff looked awesome as usual, but the dessert just topped it off for me. Looks amazing.

We sure do like the cooking posts here. I am pondering baking inside the wood stove.

2 bricks and a pizza stone across them and your in business. If they fit in the stove that is.

I'm kinda thinking the "F H C" should be changed to an "O M G" for that food!! And yes, you'll have to go to the G2G and be the chef, FP. Incredible job, as usual!!;)

That's funny you mentioned that Jack, I don't do any baking, all smoking and grill. But I got a extra Grandma bear Fisher and I looked at that one day and thought, " I wonder if I can turn that into an oven and bake outside"
