I saw an ad for one and was surprised to see the price is only $180. Seemed very low price for stihl. I know its only a 16in but seems low

No, not at all. I bought one on sale and had a $20 off coupon from my favorite dealer and paid $139 plus tax. I love it as it's light weight and a nice little saw that I use for delimbing and have used for felling trees.

I just got my hunny the MS180. It has the side tensioner like the bigger saws. I used it for limb work from basket on tractor forks.

Have had a 170 for a few years now. It's not a pro saw by any means, but it's a great deal. Nice & light, handles like nothing. Only thing I would like better, is if it came with a more substantial chain. The narrow kerf helps keep chain speed up, no doubt, but mine seems to derail way too easy sometimes when cutting small stuff.

We have worn out 2 of those because my uncle won't grab a heavier saw when appropriate. I love those things but I am gonna hide the next one.

I like the 180 a bit better than the 170. It is a great little saw.

I always see the local dealers put them on sale $20 off in the spring...makes them $159 IIRC

I know a guy who builds fence who has abused the #@$& out of a couple 180 stihls, he cuts small diameter juniper and pine for posts and stays for barbwire fencing. Those little saws hold up pretty well for their intended use.
