FB_IMG_1611143863517.jpg Today is "Tony chainsaw awareness day". Everyone please be safe out there today.
And remember if you are cutting and something feels wrong or just not right, STOP!!!
    Reevaluate the situation

Tony is my cousin's husband. 13 years ago a saw kicked back to his face. His right eye is still unusable he had a prosthetic piece to replace a good portion of his cheek bone and he he has a scar from his hairline to his chin.
He was cutting downed logs up for an owb. And I don't believe he was wearing any face protection. Pictured is the saw he was using at the time.

He recovered as well as you can from such a bad injury. He got back to work about 4 months later. But it took 2 yrs before he'd touch a saw again and he has yet to use the one he was using during the accident

Is Tony a member here ? His experience could save someone else from the same thing. I don't blame him one bit for not using that saw ever again, how traumatizing that would be.

My helmet with ear and face protection has already saved me from flying debris, as well as the ear protection. You just have to remember to put the shield up if you need to spit.

Every once in a while it's good to have a reminder of why to wear PPE.

My wife bought a cheap "forestry kit" right after it happened. It consisted of a hardhat with mesh screen and ear muffs, safety glasses and chain saw chaps. It wasn't the best safety equipment but I don't start my saw without wearing all of it. I have since upgraded the hard hat/earmuffs. And I will never use a saw without a working brake.

Years ago a my dads friends brother was cutting trees alone. Saw was old without a brake, saw kicked back and caught him in the neck and cut his jugular. :(
