Nothing in PA, saw some and heard some with no shots available. Hunted a few days NY and took a shot yesterday. Slightly embarrassed at the size, but after watching a pair of jakes for an hour I decided to drop one. The trusty 10 gauge strikes again!
SC season has come and gone I killed a bird on Good Friday, pretty chilly that afternoon in April by SC standards. Then I called one in the following week for a friend that had never killed one before Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My Wisconsin turkey permit starts tomorrow. I do not have high hopes as I have not spotted a mature tom in the last 10 days. There is a jake hanging around one of my spots but as of now am unsure if I will take him. We will see.
6 jakes and 2 hens in gun range. Guess I’m not shooting a jake! Can’t hunt tomorrow to much other stuff going on
Got the lawn mowed, 2 white oaks planted, dentist visit done, ran to the bank, I got ALL my stuff done. Alarm is set for 330am heading back to the turkey grounds Friday. My wife called me to see if I needed anything at the grocery I said 2 apples, 2 onions, and a small can low salt chicken broth. When she got home she said good luck hunting tomorrow. She knows that is what I put in the crock pot along with a fresh set of turkey breasts! I just jinxed myself cuz I told her I was shooting a jake tomorrow. That means I prolly won’t see a single turkey in gun range!
In this pic, which I took from our deck, I have shot 2 turkeys on that little knob where the green grass meets the woods. I sat there Wednesday morn but tomorrow I am going straight south to where the browner looking grass meets the woods. I found a spot where a bulldozer pushed in some stumps, earth, and huge rocks into a pile on the edge of the woods. So I have a 5 gal pail in amongst the piles of earth that is my blind!
Good luck. I am going to give it another go in the morning too. I got school by a big ol' Tom on Wednesday morning.
I have been taught many lessons from wily old toms. I would say the best lesson they taught is concealment behind you. I have been busted by not paying better attention to what is going on back here. All one hears is an alarm putt 5 yards away and leaves rustling as they flee.
Hunted til 10am. 3 hens is all I spotted. Much gobbling in the woods behind me where I do not have permission to hunt. Back at it Sunday. Family stuff tomorrow
No turkey harvest for me. For some unknown reason I just wasn’t interested in a jake. I have harvested many jakes in the past they taste better than an old tom just sayin,,,
