Today is the day apple blossoms usually open. They are still several days before they will open this year. I love the apple blossoms before they open as they look red now. Also peach usually blossom in April. There are some open now but few. The rest should open within a couple more days. Here are a couple pictures taken this morning.
No doubt...with the dry forecast for this next week, the farmers are going to be burning some serious diesel fuel working ground and planting...heck, half of them haven't even got their barns and/or lagoons cleaned out yet!
I was in Kalamazoo this past week for a meeting. It was interesting to see the daffodils and tulips in full bloom, and some flowering trees like what we call saucer or tulip magnolia. And leaves just starting to break on some species. We've been almost full leaf on for several weeks and iris are blooming.
My daffodils just really got going in the last couple of days. Interestingly, I also have a nice blush going from one of my patches of creeping phlox, which is a bit early.
Ours are 99% done...they didn't bloom that great this year, I'd say mainly to all the times we saw 32* and below, right before (and after) they were ready to bloom...they don't seem to appreciate the 25* stuff too much.
Trees around here are just starting to leaf out. This week, with highs in the 80-'s, woods should green up fast. I can't remember a spring where it has been this late for trees to leaf out.
That is weird, mine don't care about the cold nights. Heavy snow does bother them, but that is becase they get flattened. 33* here right now . . .
You're ahead of us. Lousy pic but this is as far as my apple trees have gotten so far and the plum trees and my lone peach tree barely have buds. Not surprised though as we're still having frost some nights.
My two plum trees finally blossomed (went from barely having buds to this in about three days). I'm pleased considering I just planted them last fall.
We didn't have the usual number of warm days in April and May . I've never seen the daffodils lats so long as they did this year.
Contrary to the thread title (and sorta off topic), I saw lightning bugs last week (5/18, easily a 1-2 weeks earlier than previous years) and a skeeter attempted to get me 5/20 which is excessively early… as opposed to last summer- first skeeter bite Jul 17th- by far the latest into the summer. Ever.
