I hated that rooster he got after me and the kids but I liked having him around. he was mean and ugly and nasty but I was going to see if my hens would hatch out some eggs to teach the boys about it. probably the fox I should have shot 2 weeks ago. such is life.

I had a couple hens come up missing the last couple of weeks, I let the free during the day. Today when I was heading home the hill below the house lay a red fox that had been hit. I hate seeing it hit, but I'm tired of it gettin my chickens.

I'm guessing fox or weasel - both can do damage to a chicken set up. Get a new Rooster and start enjoying those "farm Fresh" eggs - nothing better.

I like to hear them crow, but most of them get way to mean. Now nothing but hens.

I've done a pretty good job of keeping the fox population at bay after losing 11 chickens in a 2 week period. Now it's a hawk(s). Lost 4 last summer but avoiding jail time is higher on my priority list than reducing the hawk population.

PHOTO_20140326_192216.jpg Mmmmmmm good stuff. So the banty I would have sworn was a rooster must be confused. I have not had a banty egg since my other one got killed accidentally. I swear she was even crowing the other day. Well I did not get a chance to get eggs yesterday and low and behold along with the others is a banty egg. Yes they always have plenty of food and water in case my work schedule is screwy and I miss a day.

I have a female Bantom that crows more than my rooster! Well my wife caught another fox in the yard tonight twice. She ran it off the first time and an hour later she looked out the window and it was chasing chickens again. The second time she released the hounds, two chihuahuas and a Doberman! The Doberman didn't come back for an hour or so she said, I doubt he caught it. When I got home I waited for an hour and no fox turned up in the evening, I will set up again tomorrow and see. I would have never thought he would come back a second time, he must be bold or looking for a easy meal.

Fox 2 me 0. Let the chickens out the Friday only to have the rooster not return. Unless its one of the neighborhood "free range" dogs. Guess I will keep the girls in until I get a better handle on this.:( I think thet lay better when they get out more.

Mine def lay better when they are let out for a bit. I try to rotate when I let them out, fingers crossed. That's the only reason I keep the Bantoms around hoping they will sacrifice themselves!

I think bantoms are more fun to watch and a little better at bug control.
