brenndatomu here you go you asked for it! The bearing on one side is bad and the leaf spring on the bottom pushed out so I beat it back in today. The deck is so bad I laid what I had at the time to get by OSB. I can’t put it off any longer. It’s just time. The plan is to do a few modifications to the trailer that have been a dream for a long time. Flip the axle and slide it back, build a drop ramp gate, put a winch on the front for pulling things into the trailer bed and get it blasted and repainted. Maybe a tool box on the front MAYBE... Either way it’s got about a month and a half to get done. We need it for a lot of projects this year.
Got it out now. The other side still had a break plate and it fell off while taking the axle out. All but rusted off... looks like the other side was cut off and ground smooth.
Thanks! I am currently looking for new leaf springs I took them apart last night and most of the right side where either cracked or flat once I get them separated. EBAY AWAY! Actually I am kinda glad now I dont need to paint them
Looking good neighbor. I'm sure you've thought of it especially being the above comment . Having driven truck and flatbeds especially securement points are a major thing I look for in a trailer . What wood do you plan on for decking, white oak . If you need any help let me know and I will come over and take pictures lol.
Your welcome anytime Brett! Just say the word! I am thinking about how to do hooks given the narrow width of the trailer. Theres a crazy idea floating around in my head but its hard to explain I am one of those guys that draws it in my head and then does it. Thats NOT always a good thing... Probably white oak after pricing the treated lumber at home depot today my heart about stopped I might as well just go to a mill for white oak the stuff lasts just as long if not longer than the treated pine will. Today I discovered a site that has a much better price on clean steel than most places I have checked. I am going to call scrap yards tomorrow for 1*1 or 1*2 tubing 11 guage or better for the tailgate. That should be more than enough for the splitter, mowers and firewood hauls.
Im also planning on adding some shocks to the trailer to help save the tires. All the bouncing leaf springs really eats up tires.....
Good idea! I haven’t bought from them in over a year! For some reason I always forget about that site...
Well update time... After a very long exhausting morning we have talked to countless trailer builders and supplies shops, driven from Lansing to Grand Rapids and back and I have just about worn my brain out.................................. There isnt a single trailer supplier in 150 miles who can get me the parts or replacement springs for the trailer that meet there 10 leafs and length. I just finished emailing State Spring out of Lansing in hopes that I can take them in and get parts to fix them or have them made to the dimensions needed. Fingers crossed.... We hit Menards on the way back and I broke down and purchased a diamond metal cutting blade for my Porter Cable metal chop saw. Supposedly it cuts straight, cooler and last much longer than those fiber discs Ive been putting on it for the last 4 years or so.. Its a good saw but the fiber discs get pricey in short order. ( pics coming ) Gotta get off my overly bummed out behind and go get to work with what I can until the springs get figured out....
