Wow, the prediction mill is cranking out for the coming weekend already here, in central PA.... 29.3" forecast for our area at the current moment. I'm gonna give my own prediction........2" of rain!! Lol What kind of crazy reports are yinz hearing?
The guessers said we may get that same big one here, on Sunday... and it might even get bigger... hehehe...
Wow!! That's a bomber storm if holds up! Call me crazy but something about a monster storm like that I look forward to!
I say BRING IT! But I get tired of these crazy predictons, only to be let down when it finally arrives....lol Regardless, guess I should dig the snowmobile out and get it ready.....just in case!
I'll be getting the call from Mom later this week, "Make sure you stock up on bread, milk, and eggs" LOL.....
That's one reason I sold our last snowmobile. ATV is much better almost all the time. Only a couple times over the years I have not been able to ride it and then I really didn't care. And the atv is not dependent upon snow; can really be a ball on the ice too. If memory holds, the last time we had a snow machine was around 1972 or 1973. And just before we sold it, we had taken a short vacation just to ride...and could not ride except on the road because there was too much snow!! I remember trying to go up on Brockway Mountain (yooperdave knows where that is) and suddenly going around a curve and meeting up with a 6' wall of snow. Most places the snow was also very fluffy. We spent time on cross country skis instead of snow machine.
Call me crazy but something about a monster storm like that I look forward to! ... yup, same here... and it's made even better when we're nice and warm by the fire... when the power goes out...
Don't forget to stock up on beer too. It's like water, but the the alcohol helps keep the water from freezing. Think of it as a life saving device.
Weather folks are either non-commital, or, 2-3 feet of snow. Of course, it all depends on the track. No snow on the ground, right now. Hoping, that'll change
I don't trust any of the computer simulations, they seem to have gone downhill in accuracy since the 90's. Old time weather forecasters maybe if they still go off of real data and not some computer that never seems to get it right..
I'm 100% with you. The old-fashioned water barometers are still the best indicator of an impending storm, IMO, but even they can't tell you how much snow you're gonna get. I'm looking forward to a big, bad, old-fashioned blizzard, but I don't expect it to happen.......
I agree they don't tell you but radar gives an idea of what to expect. Which I believe is all they had before computers and that radar wasn't "as fine grain" as todays. I am as well I haven't seen a good one since 93 and that one wasn't that big or bad. 78 may have been the last big bad one I can recall at least in my parts.
We are suppose to get 8-10 of snow on Saturday. We have a freezer full of Meat, always have different types of rice, instant potatoes and stuffing. Of course on the way home from work Chaz will pick up beer to fill the beer fridge. On the front porch we have a smoker grill along with a propane. Also about a half cord of wood on the porch for heating or cooking.
