Got to use the new Hookaroon today on a small roadside score near my house. It was awesome for loading and unloading the truck. I even used the blunt side of the head to knock some of the rounds out of the ice. The score is mostly various Pine and Douglas Fir rounds. It was two moderate sized truck loads. Had to make two trips. I didn't feel like digging my trailer out of the snow. Scores like this are a dime a dozen up here. It was mostly just an excuse to use my new toy. Felt good to get out of the house today. We've been in a brutal cold snap lately. Today, the sun was shining and the snow was melting fast! Buzz Benton - Here are the pics I promised last night!
I already have a logrite pickaroon but a wood handle one like this might be nice to have Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
The pine looks like it has the blue stain fungus, beetle kills are all over my area too. Really like the aspen and fir in the background of the last pic.
Yep. You nailed it. The Pine beetle has been a problem here for a long time. Most folks try to stay on top of it here. The Doug Firs are slowly taking over as the big Pines die off.
Nice grab cash. Shouldnt every score be an "excuse" to use our hoarding toys? How often do you grab those dime a dozen scores?
Cash Larue you use the pickeroon different than I do. I know some guys do that but I also know some guys who have stabbed themselves by driving it into logs. I use mine mostly for rolling small logs and for reaching. Also it works nice and saves bending when picking up brush.
Yeah, I’m still figuring uses out for it. I’ve found it very helpful so far. I’m being very diligent about the spike on it. It’s insanely sharp.
I grab scores like that, maybe once or twice a week. They are everywhere. I could easily grab one a day if I had the time and motivation.
.......and in other news, a Colorado man reports a stack of firewood was stolen! He told police that he had the stack of firewood one his property along a road and noticed it was missing sometime on the first of March...... Nice grab!
I love my pickaroon too, wood handle similar to yours. It's dug a lot of logs outta ditches and low spots. Hoarding is gonna get tough here with mud season arriving. I've already committed to two or three days off to buy and hopefully sell some equipment to up my game a bit. Nice score for sure!
Thanks, AC! I always hear you guys talking about mud season. Is that when the snow melts off? Is it bad? Does it make travel difficult? Everything is crushed granite here. Basically, the ground and roads here consist of deteriorated rock. It drains really well. So we don’t really get mud here. A little bit in spots I suppose. But I never notice it. If 3 feet of snow melts, the roads will be dry the next day here. Not bragging, as we certainly have our own challenges here. Just curious?
Ha ha. I should clarify… Between work, plowing snow, working out, trying to outsmart the bears, elk, mule deer, moose and raising kids etc - when I get a chance to relax, sometimes I do. I’ve been eating up the overtime at work lately too. I wish I had more time and energy to hoard. Glad you like the pics. I feel like hoarding mostly softwoods isn’t as exciting as the big oaks and Locust that you guys in the Midwest and East coast get.
