Is that pretty hard on the shingles? (reduce their lifespan?). I have a steep pitch on my new part of the house and a metal roof, when it goes, it goes with a WOOOOOOOOOOSH. Everyone looks happy, making a chore fun creates life long memories. Good on you! and the crew!!

I use a roof rake on our single story ranch. Goal are to avoid ice damming, and lessen the weight in the event of rain.

I can surely destroy the shingles. I use a snow scoop that is pushed instead of lifted. It has a rounded edge vs a sharp edge of a shovel.

Just to be nosey Rope, how often do you have to do this generally? And is there a height you use or what kind of measuring do you do to decide to get on the roof?

Haven't shoveled the front porch roof this year, but I guess it was 2-3 years ago, first year we had Holly, we got around 16 inches of wet slop.
Shoveled the roof off, and for 2 days we could hear the beams popping back into proper alignment.

At least it looks like you and the kids made a good time of it.

The only roof I hafta shovel off is the little wood shed that has a wood shingle roof. Ya hafta lift the top up to gain access. Hey, the three day supply of wood stays dry. it's what I have. I haven't busted a shingle yet, but easily could if not being careful.
