One of my wives friends was over last night. They were talking about horse back riding this Sunday. She asked me if they go riding what will I do. I told her I planned to go down to the farm and cut wood. CUT WOOD??!! Why do you need more wood? My wife said "He just likes to run his saws." An understanding wife is a great thing!
I just bought that vintage Stihl Contra from Germany, we're sitting out back by the firepit and my wife said "another chainsaw?" I said "this one's different honey, I've been watching for many years to find one like this, and it really is a collectable saw, more of a display piece than anything. ..." She says "oh, I see......how much was it?" I could feel a lump in my throat, but not being one to hide things from my wife, I told her.....she gasped, and then chuckled.... I breathed a sigh of relief until she asked me the next question, "so, how many chainsaws do you have now?"
Yeah certain family members would ask me every once in a while (mainly 1 of my uber obnoxious older brothers) "So...how many does this make now?" I just quit answering back in 2014,he never brought up the subject again. But I do have the perfect response for those individuals who don't ''get" it.... Even used it a couple times, but its been a few months now.... "Why do you have so many chainsaws? What do you do with them all?" "Well I could be an heroin or meth addict & have 5-6 children by 5 different women scattered all over the country instead...But I do like my beer,a good ribeye or sirloin steak & occasionally some top shelf Scotch or Bourbon...Any more stupid questions you wanna ask me?" Idiots.
I can't collect anything that isn't just an electronic representation. No place to put anything without getting rid of something else. It isn't the cost, it is the "space" and "need" thing.
I am giving that some thought, but it has limits too. I want a heated space and one that isn't too far to walk to. I would like to at least have an area I can work on my hobbies and not have to listen to someone yak at me about "my mess". I am thinking about it. Been thinking of setting up a spot in the garage, or adding onto the sunporch. The porch idea cost more, but has better access, plus it would be easier to heat. One of my hobbies is cutting stained glass. I used to do a lot of wood projects, but they are space intensive.
Yes I think my better half thinks I have a girlfriend code named "chainsaw" lol..... I tell ya I don't have near as many saws as a lot of you guys, but I do use 3 of the 6 I do have very regularly.....and if you properly maintain your work saws, dress bars, and sharpen chains it takes time.... Thistle, my friend I think you nailed it.... We damm sure could be doing a lot worse....I like you like to have a cold one while "maintaining" my saws lol...
