    Hello all,
When my FIL passed a few years ago he left us with a Remington #1 Rolling block rifle.
I know next to nothing about them except what they are and the basic way they work.
This has a Numrich .444 Creedmore barrel on it and I just found a 20 gauge shotgun barrel still in cosmoline and wrapped in plastic. and a NOS forearm piece for the barrel.
Anyone shoot these? I've briefly looked at parts and prices and It confused me more than answered my curiosity. So many different ones were made and I have no idea/where abouts of the original barrel. I can say this, it has a rolling type ejector not a slide type.

    Thoughts? Keep it, sell it?

I assume this is one of the newer ones made by Remington?

Reviews are mixed on the 444 barrel. Some win matches, others can't get em to group.
If you're not sentimental about, sell it.

I'm not sure? It is an 1874 according to the receiver. I was told it was a Rolling block #1 I'll post some pics shortly. I just found a 20 gauge shotgun barrel and forearm piece for it also.

Well it would be good for moose. :rootintootin: Or buffalo if you can find one.
From what I can find, cause I suffer from CRS, Remington made a ton of these in the 1800's. And then Numrich rebarreled a bunch of left over actions in the 1960's in NY and Mexico. Can't figure out where this one came from. Is there a serial number on the to the rear of the trigger guard?
Apparently the Creedmore barrels were an upgrade and very accurate.
It looks to be in good shape.

I think that's a safe bet! My FIL most likely had this since the 50's easy I'd bet. He never sold any guns, (we knew of). His son would steal one and pawn it from time to time for drug or booze money. (Yes, that's true! :headbang:) We found that out after he passed! :( He was an avid hunter and reloader. He had some very sweet pieces that turned up missing when we got out there after he passed, ones my wife and I knew were there.

There is always 1 Piece of $#!T in the family!!! :picard: Yes, I only wish for him to get a serious A$$ kicking someday!!! I believe I would have been the one to do it to him but he never showed up for his Mother or Fathers funeral so that right there tells you what a P.O.S. he really is!!!
