Been pretty busy the past two weekends. Last weekend on the edge of my property found a downed maple tree and also a nice sized red oak. Made quick work of them and are now split and stacked!

Then yesterday early morning I got an CL alert for a score around the corner from me. No mention of what kind of wood but grabbed my gloves & jumped in the truck to go check it out and it was dandy of a red oak score. Lot of the larger pieces I couldn't haul but I got all I could take!

Nice work and great score ReelFaster :dancer: Can you split the big red oak rounds roadside. I do quite often. Thats some nice looking wood. Great that you were able to jump on it right away and it was close to home! Cant beat that!

Thanks Brad!! I could and thinking of going back if some of its left. I was so spent after making a couple of trips yesterday morning as my scrounging setup is a little labor and time consuming, ideally would love to be able to just drive the truck and or trailer right about back to unload but that's not possible currently so I have to unload it all in front of the house.

I understand. All the logistical problems us hoarders overcome, but we persevere!:tree:

That looks like beech not sugar maple. Am I wrong?

Can’t believe all that red oak is sitting there roadside, cut to length. What a score! A scrounge’s dream.

It's not that uncommon around here as folks are always getting trees removed. Lots and lots of big big oaks around here. Just need to act quickly and be ready to work. Sometimes it's hard for me to drop what I am doing and run out but I do as much as I can when I can.

For sure that can't be beech. Beech leaves will be brown and they hold their leaves through winter. Many times young soft maple can be mistaken for beech, especially in pictures. It is always more difficult to ID trees with pictures than it is first hand.

Well ReelFaster you fell into it there, no? Nice score-especially the oak!

How much land do you have if you don't mind me asking?

Great wood gets! Makes me eager to get out and hoard some more.

Not nearly as much as I'd like! But roughly just shy of an acre.

Good scores, love splitting red oak...well that’s when I do actually split it instead of just making the wood pile bigger. Agree on ease of hoarding around here. I’m getting at least a cord a week. U just have to be quick!
