The scape is the little pig-tail shoot that grows out of the center of the garlic plant. The green things in the picture above. If you don't pick them the scape will flower and then seed. You get bigger bulbs with more cloves if you pick the scape because the plant will put more energy into its bulb (the garlic) instead of the flower. You treat the scape just like a scallion in cooking, just it has a garlic flavor instead of onion flavor.
Yeah, just using what I had. The Island I live on is basically a giant granite rock, when the trees blow over the root balls pull up all the broken granite ledge pieces, makes for easy pickings but they can be a bit of a puzzle to work with.
I love the Grannite. We live in Limestone country. Neat gray/ blue color, but not usually a good color for landscape
Don't worry - I'm sure he had his dogs trained to help him - have you seen how nice they stack wood? Building one of these keystone firepits is definitely on the to-do list. Yours looks great, but I want some pics of those chops too!
I scrounged 6 of these big hunks of pine back in the spring and have been using them for splitting stumps. I don't really need 6 splitting stumps, and am almost 4 years ahead on firewood, so I decided to turn them into something useful. New firepit seating. Guess who showed up for the trial run.
I have no idea why those dogs do what you ask for posing for pictures but I am glad they do. Very entraining. Really like the keystone firepit. Very nice. That has got to be a lot of fun to cook on. Don't know just why, but cooking fish on a pit like that always makes it taste way better.
I was wondering why the seats weren't taller? Now I get it. Better get something cooking for the guests. I bet they get impatient.
